FALL REC SOCCER AND FALL VSL (VERMONT SOCCER LEAGUE)
As a general way of looking at things, we take part in two fall soccer programs. Our Rec program has been in place since 1988, and is still the primary program we offer to the community. The Rec program is for the majority of our players from Kindergarten up to Grade 8. The focus is on learning the game, skill development, having fun and instilling a love of the game onto the kids.
Fall VSL kicked off in 2013 by the Vermont Soccer Association, the governing body of youth soccer in Vermont. Even though all games take place at Tree Farm in Essex, this is a 'travel' league and it is quite a bit more competitive than a typical town Rec program. We enter teams into this league at the U9, U10, U11, and U12 age levels for both boys and girls. Teams are established by a tryout, which is held for 2 nights at the beginning of August at Airport Park.
For more information on both programs, see below.
The Fall Rec season begins on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 @ Airport Park. The teams and schedules are posted below as they become available.

As of Jan 1, 2015 only Colchester residents are allowed to play on a Vermont Soccer League (VSL) roster. In unique circumstances where a particular team does not have enough players (and there are no Colchester residents available for that age group), a coach can recruit a non-resident player(s) to fill the roster for that specific Fall or Spring VSL season and that season only. This must be approved by the CYSC Board.
Some students reside in Colchester, but attend schools outside of Colchester. Being a student in a Colchester School is not a requirement, simply a resident of the town.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START/END?
The Fall Rec season begins on Saturday, September 19th. There will be no kickoff Jamboree this year at Airport Park (where kids will play small sided games and coaches will be on hand to help build balanced teams). The first official games are on Saturday September 19th, and will run for six consecutive weeks and wrap up on Saturday, October 24th.
FALL REC LEAGUE PHILOSOPHY:
Our league philosophy is this is a beginning recreation program. It is designed to give equal opportunity to all players without concern for game outcome. This does not mean we de-emphasize quality competition.
HOW ARE TEAMS BUILT?:
For Fall Rec, we create teams based on grade level. At our kickoff Jamboree, we will have all kids' training and playing soccer. Board members and coaches will evaluate all players. We will then build balanced teams based on the evaluations. CAN'T BE AT THE JAMBOREE? NO WORRIES! WE WILL MAKE SURE WE PUT YOUR CHILD ON AN APPROPRIATE TEAM. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND, PLEASE SEND A SHORT NOTE TO NATALIE BRADFORD AND SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON YOUR CHILD'S SKILL/ABILITY/ETC. firstname.lastname@example.org
IS THE FALL REC LEAGUE CO-ED? ALL GIRLS? ALL BOYS?:
Based on the number of sign-ups, and in working
to be consistent with Vermont Soccer League best practices, we are organizing fall teams as outlined below. We feel that this breakdown will create more competitive games as well as help player development by splitting girls and boys after Grade 1.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE KINDERGARTEN SOCCER ACADEMY:
Our Kindergarten Academy is a fun environment for kids to learn and love the game of soccer. The session starts out with all kids warming up with a ball. We then have each team of kids go through a series of drill stations with Board Members and Training Staff. These drills are designed to be fun and challenging for the kids. After about 35-40 minutes of drills, we break all of the teams out to play a 25 minute scrimmage. Team coaches help ref the games. Board members are on hand every week to help facilitate drills, work with new coaches, etc.
The Kindergarten Academy kicks off on Saturday, September 19th from 9:00AM-10:00 AM
at Airport Park.
Kindergarten only trains and plays on Saturdays. No practice during the week.
